Introduction
Conveniently located on Highway 74 in Indian Trail, North Carolina, Pebble Creek Par 3 golf course began in 1961 as a 9 hole facility and added the back 9 in 1969. The greens are 328 bermuda grass and are challenging targets to hit, averaging only 2500 square feet. The holes average 125 yards in length and range from 87 to 177 yards. Water hazards come into play on 10 holes creating the need for careful club selection and shot execution. A smart golfer knows the value of developing a good short game and Pebble Creek will certainly test your skills.

Golf Etiquette from Beginning to End

Warm Up
Stretch a little, you'll be glad you did. Hit a few soft wedges in the practice area and putt on the putting green... No chipping on putting green. Choose your group, no more than four players per group.

First Tee
Mark your ball and inform other players the type and number ball you are playing Don't talk or move about while someone is playing a stroke If a divot is taken (that little chunk of grass) fill with sand mixture provided or replace divot. Make sure everyone in your foursome is behind you and everyone in front of you is well out of range when you hit. We all know that every shot does not go where you aimed. Yell "Fore" really! Whenever there is the slightest chance of hitting other players.

On the green
Take note of the location of every golf ball on the green. Be ready to play when it is your turn Walk in a normal stride; avoid large steps or jumping which could damage green making it harder to putt. Take care not to walk on the area of grass that a fellow golfer will be putting on next. Watch out for your shadow and don't stand near the hole or walk between your partner's ball and the hole. Remember the line of putt - the path it must follow to the hole is holy ground! Always allow the person with the best score on the most recent hole to play first, this is called the honor. Repair your ball mark and one other. If you make a ball mark use your divot tool to repair. Here's how: stick the repair tool in the green around the perimeter of the indention. Start at the rear and gently lift the compacted dirt. Replace loose grass or turf in center of hole and tap down with your putter. It takes 15 minutes for a green to repair itself after repair and it takes 15 days if not repaired.

Speed of Play
Keep up with the group in front of you. If players behind you are waiting on every shot, invite them to play through... From the time you select your club until you actually hit your shot, it should not take you more than 30 to 45 seconds. Players on front 9 always have the right of way to the back nine. Please yield or let them play through if they catch up with you. Leave the green as soon as everyone has finished putting. Don't stand around the cup, fill out your scorecards and jaw with your partner. Remember, this delays play and leaves a lot of foot prints around the cup. For Par-3's, pick up after seven strokes.

Water Hazards/Bunkers
When your ball goes into the water you must first determine the ball entry point and if there is a drop area... Drop another ball at point of entry (within two club lengths) or in drop area. Ball fishing is not allowed in our lakes. It's too dangerous. Bring a rake into the bunker with you; always enter the bunker from the low side nearest the ball. Rake the area you played from as well as all your footprints and any others you can reach. Leave rake in bunker.

Ball Hunting
Take no more than two minutes (5 for serious tournaments) to search for your ball. If you cannot find your ball drop a new one at the nearest point free of obstructions to where you believe the ball to be and play from there. If you just have to find that ball please signal the group behind you to play through. These methods also speed play for everyone. If you find your original ball in bounds you must pick up the new one and play the original one.

The Flag
Always wait for all golfers to hit their ball onto the green before removing the flag stick. Remove and replace the flag carefully as to not damage the holes edges. Lay or hold the flag on the fringes whenever possible as to not damage the greens. Players may request to leave the flag in the hole while putting, hold the flag and the stick together and mind your shadow. This is called tending the flag.

Finally, at the end of the round shake hands, congratulate the winners and console the losers. Hank Aaron once said "It took me seventeen years to get three thousand hits in baseball. I did it in one afternoon on the golf course."
